Blok Squad Construction Site Review

Thursday, February 16th, 2012

Mega Bloks are beginning to become a staple in our house, Colton loves them and Michael is hugely into the smaller legos that you build into cars and trucks.  So when we were asked to review the Blok Squad Construction Site I was thrilled!

The Block Squad Construction Site is made for kids 5 and up, so Colton is a little young for this type of Mega Blok, but he is good about not putting toys in his mouth so he can watch Michael build, and play with the vehicles (GENTLY, we have to remind him) after they are built.  Kids can do so many play scenarios with this set since it comes with a few different construction vehicles.

  1. 4×4
  2. Track Loader
  3. Road Roller

This set is compatible with the other Blok Squad Vehicles so your kids can collect and combine them all (we also have an police set).  Some of the other themes are Fire, Police, Construction, Space, Speed Boat, Beach Patrol, Trooper, Army Military, and many more!

The Blok Squad Construction Site includes 295 pieces and retails for around $19.99.  This is one set I would get since you do get so much in it vs some of the lower priced sets that you do not get as many vehicles or pieces.

Where to buy:  Amazon, Toys R Us, toysrus.com, Walmart, and walmart.com

FTC Disclosure:  Many thanks to Mega Brands for providing my family with this set to review.  All opinions are my own, honest opinions, and I was not monetarily compensated for this review.

All The Little Birds And AWESOME Giveaway!

Friday, June 3rd, 2011

All the Little Birds

For the moms that live in the Youngstown, Ohio area, I really have a treat for you!  Right at the Abundant Harvest Church in Austintown, All The Little Birds has some pretty awesome classes for parents and the little ones.  All The Little Birds is an Infant and Toddler program that encourages your baby or toddler’s love of music through singing, movement, sensory activities, and instrument play.  Your child will also be introduced to sign language using book, songs and rhymes.

For those that do not know, Colton and I are involved in a playgroup and one of the assistant organizers set up a class just for our group with Rachel from All The Little Birds.  When I learned of this class I was pretty much counting down the days because it seemed like something that Colton (and the twins) would really enjoy.  I always look forward to trying new things that I think Colton will enjoy.

Rachel, the founder of All The Little Birds, put together a great program for the kids.  She kept us moving, dancing, singing, and (Colton’s Favorite) playing instruments for the whole sturctured part of the class.  Michael and Malena (Age 5) enjoyed the class too, Malena asked later that day, “The next time that you go back to that place, can I PLEASE go with you.”  And lucky for her All The Little Birds now has a Big Kids Musicians class that is perfect for her age.

I have already signed Colton up for one of the Chirping Babies classes.  I think he is at an age where he will especially benefit the most from attending classes at All The Little Birds.  He is a toddler now, and most of our organized play is still like ‘we are going here, but you can still do what you want’, at All The Little Birds the Chirping Babies Class is broken into two sections.  The first 30 minutes are stuctured with songs and movement and the second 30 minutes is free play, where he can interact with other kids and play what he wants to.  For Colton it was hard for him to understand at first that he needed to sit in the circle and do what the other kids were doing, but Rachel did a great job at captivating him and he eventually joined in with the others (especially with the bubbles and the instruments).

If you can’t tell, we had an AWESOME time at All The Little Birds and I am certainly looking forward to when the summer session starts.  The most memorable part of the class was when we were singing the “More Milk Please” song and Colton was walking inside the circle doing the sign for milk with both hands.  It was so funny because at that point I really didn’t think he was paying any attention to what Rachel was showing them, but he was!  I think I was more suprised because I have really started to slack with teaching him sign language now that he is talking, so I haven’t seen him do the sign for milk in probably 2+ months.

All The Little Birds Summer Session starts in just a few weeks.  There are more classes and they are filling up quickly, so be sure to check out the available times and sign up HERE so your child’s spot is reserved.

Shielo Antioxidant Leave in Protectant Review

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to try out Sheilo’s Antioxidant Leave in Protectant.  This antioxidant rich leave in protectant is designed to fortify every strand of hair, as well as protect your color-treated hair from the elements. Our unique protective complex with pro-vitamins, proteins and amino acids block color loss while providing UV protection. For deeper natural and color-treated hair color. Organic nutrients make it excellent for detangling and making hair manageable.

I use the Leave in Protectant as a detangler AND as a protectant.  I use it as a detangler for miss Malena when she comes over and for myself on those days that I don’t have time to blow dry my hair right away.  I spray a few sprits on my hair after the shower and my hair is a lot more manageable when I do get around to styling it.

BUT my favorite thing is to use it as a protectant.  Prior to using the Shielo Protectant I had a few different ones I bought, but I really didn’t like the feel they gave my hair when I used them.  Oily hair is not something I am a fan of so I just wouldn’t use a protectant.  The Shielo Leave in Protectant is awesome because I don’t feel like I have oily hair when I use it, instead my hair feels soft and fresh.

About Shielo:  Shielo Hair Care and Technology was first created in 2001 in New York City.  When stylists had the need for more voluminous styles, while including the effort to enhance and fortify hair care products with volumizing and color protecting elements.  In 2007 Shielo became available in their clients homes and was first sold online.  Towards the end of the 2008, the Color Protect line was launched which today remains a product winner in many categories for color protection and shine.

Shielo strives to create products with integrity and preserve the enviornment.  All Shielo products are cruelty free and use post-consumer recycled and recyclable packaging.

Shielo has many other products like Strengthening Shampoo, Reflecting Conditioner, Volume Bounce Style Cream, and Anti- Aging Complexion Scrub just to name a few.  If you would like to order any Shielo products, you can use the code JESSICALOVETOSAVE for 5% off your total order.

FTC Disclosure:  Many thanks to Sheilo Hair Care for providing the product to review.  Some information about Shielo and the products was taken from their website.  All opinions expressed are my own, honest opinions.   This is not a paid post.

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

Spring is headed our way and everyone loves to wear Crocs when the warm weather hits.  Crocs has a new line of shoes that will tone your upper and lower legs called Crocs Tone.  So now you can tone your legs and while wearing your stylish Crocs.  Crocs Tone are made of the traditional lightweight and odor-resisting, patented Croslite material as the original Crocs and they are super stylish.

These super stylish shoes come in 4 styles in various colors:
Skylar Flip
Skylar Sandal
Skylar Clog
Skylar Flat

I got to try out the Sklar Flip, which will be great for summer and I really can’t wait!  The shoes are SUPER lightweight and while we still have snow on the ground I have been wearing them around the house since I got them and they are super comfortable.  The sole of the shoe is thicker and rounder than I expected, but that is the design of the shoe that tones my legs, I certainly can’t complain about that!  The Crocs Tone line is great and gets two thumbs up from me.  I really would like to buy the Skylar Flat, I think those would look super cute with Bramuda shorts OR Jeans.

Have you checked out Croc’s Favebook Page?  If you haven’t you should :-)   After you “Like” the Crocs Facebook Page yon can Check out how Crocs is Changing the Tone of Negative News Headlines to make them POSITIVE.  My favorite one is: “Wife Sues Man While She is Still Married to Him.”  And Crocs changed it to “Extremely Civil Married Couple finds innovative way to solve Marrital Problems”  LOVE IT!  LOL.

Buy it:  You can purchase the new line of Crocs Tone Products starting at $44.99.  (I will tell you what,  I was a little :sticker shocked: by the price, but after actually getting the shoes and wearing them, they are totally worth the price.)

BagInspiration LunchSkins Review and TWO $20 Gift Card Winners!!

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

How would you like to reduce the amount of plastic baggies you use?  Not only will it save you money since you won’t have to keep buying more but it is also great for the environment too!  The BagInspiration LunchSkins are just what every household needs.  They come in two sizes Sandwich and snack size, which are perfect for packing lunches and picnics.  Since I received my LunchSkins I have kept the snack sized one filled with puffs and inside my purse or Diaper Bag as a little snack for the little guy while we are on the go.

The Sandwich size bag is perfect for bigger snacks and well, sandwiches.  But I also found it useful for keeping small toys in- oh and wipes, I lost my wipes case so I had to use the big one to keep some wipes in too!  My favorite thing about the lunchSkins is the cuteness of the bags!  Every design is cute and modern with bright designs, they even come with a place for you to write your (or your child’s) name so that if they are lost, they have a better chance at getting back to you.  :-)   If you want to use less plastic for the cost of just two packages of disposable baggies you can buy a LunchSkin and be on your way to never buying plastic sandwich bags again!

The LunchSkins are Dishwasher safe on the top rack, but need to be air dried (so don’t put them in the dryer!).  The material wipes clean easily, since I don’t have a dishwasher my LunchSkins have been washed by hand and still look just like new!

BagInspiration makes several different type of eco friendly bags, not just these adorable LunchSkins!  They have produce bags, sports bags, wallets, and even Evening Bags all made from Recycled material.  Check out the ReBagz off the Cuff Wristlet, which is made from coated recycled paper:

Pretty cool right?  I noticed that BagInspiration also just started carrying ChicoBags, which I am very familar with and LOVE to use as shopping bags since they can hold SOOO much in one bag (up to 40 Pounds!).  So if you do win the $20 BagInspiration Gift Card you have quite a few options to choose for your prize!

TWO Lucky Jessica Loves To Save Money Readers will EACH win a $20 Gift Card to BagInspiration.  So YOU get to pick your prize :-)

How to enter the giveaway:  Leave a comment below with your entry.  One comment = One Entry.  This giveaway will end on 2/28/11 at midnight PST.  Remember only the Mandatory Entry is required, all other entries are to “reward” those that want to do more.
